5 important tips to maintain your cash register in good condition

Cash registers can be sensitive machines like computers with main boards where many chips are inserted. It could malfunction with a light shock.

Here are 5 Tips you can maintain the cash register for a long term use.

1. KEEP AWAY FROM ANY WATER DAMAGE

Like a laptop or computer, water or other liquids could damage the machine. Keep the cash registers counter clean and make sure the cashiers pay attention not to spill any drinks/water to the machine.

2. PLUG IN THE POWER CORD TO A SURGE PROTECTOR TO AVOID ANY ELECTRIC SHOCK

After a power outage or too many power cords connected to one outlet with cash register, it can cause an electric shock to the cash register that will damage main board. Use reliable surge protectors and try to avoid plugging too many machines with the cash register.

3. USE A SILICONE KEYBOARD COVER

Silicone keyboard covers will prevent any small objects or water from getting into the machine. When we disassemble cash registers to inspect for repairs, we often find small objects or bugs (roaches and even mice!) which cause direct damage to the main board and the rest of the interior.

4. WHEN REFILLING THERMAL PAPER, MAKE SURE TO PLACE THE PAPER AND CLOSE THE PRINTER DOOR CORRECTLY.

Other than every day transaction uses, a printer error can happen when the thermal paper is loaded incorrectly and the paper door is not closed firmly. Make sure to replace the paper in the right way and close the door until you hear a ‘click’ sound. Please see the below video on how to correctly replace your receipt paper for SAM4s & HK Systems cash register.

5. LASTLY, HANDLE GENTLY AND CLEAN REGULARLY.

Like any other machine, handle it gently. Do not close the cash drawer too hard or type on the keyboard too hard. Any shock could damage the machine. It is also very important to clean it regularly to avoid any dirt or small objects going inside the machine.
